Food Access at the Market
How does it work?
Visit the administration tent (located at the front of the pavilion) and present a valid SNAP-EBT card.
You must spend at least $5 of SNAP-EBT at the market. Once this transaction has been made, we will give “TRFM Bucks” to spend at vendors booths at the market.
Purchase foods & produce with TRFM Bucks. All eligible food vendors at the market accept SNAP-EBT and TRFM Bucks.
Overview of Food Access Programs accepted at the market:
snap-ebt
Informally known as “food stamps,” SNAP-EBT is a program funded by the USDA that provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget. This helps everyone afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being. ALL vendors selling eligible products at the market accept SNAP-EBT.
To find out if your family is eligible for SNAP-EBT and to sign up with a counselor on the phone, call local nonprofit SC Thrive at 1-800-726-8774.
TRFM for All (Snap Doubling Program)
The TRFM for All is a matching fund for SNAP-EBT users at the market. For each dollar of SNAP-EBT spent at the market, TRFM will give $2 of “TRFM Bucks” (up to $100) to help spending go further. These funds can be used to purchase and food items - including produce, honey, breads, meats, cheeses, etc.
Healthy Bucks
TRFM participates in a SCDA program called “Healthy Bucks,” which provides a $15 benefit to anyone who spends at least $5 of SNAP-EBT at the farmers market. Think of this as a “spend $5, get $15” coupon at the farmers market.
Healthy Bucks can be used only for fruits and vegetables.
Senior Vouchers (Senior farmers market nutrition program)
The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition program is funded through the SCDA. Local organizations distrubute $50 checks to eligible seniors age 60 or older and within certain income requirements to be used for produce purchase at farmers markets. In Greenville County, vouchers are given out by local nonprofit Senior Action on a first-come, first-serve basis. One distribution will be on June 20th at TR City Hall across from the Travelers Rest Farmers Market.
